Periodontal (Gum) Disease Treatment – Topeka, KS

Protecting Your Gums and Your Entire Smile

The earliest stage of gum disease, known as gingivitis, is fairly mild; you may notice some inflammation and bleeding, but it likely won’t seem too serious at first. However, gingivitis that’s left alone for too long will eventually turn into periodontitis, which in turn can cost you your teeth and may even contribute to heart problems and other health issues. Call Dr. Fox today if you have concerns about your gum health; we’ll take whatever steps are needed to get your gum disease under control.

Scaling & Root Planing

Plaque and tartar can be removed during a regular dental cleaning, but if they build up below the gum line, a different approach is required to remove them and protect your periodontal health. The scaling process involves breaking down and removing the plaque and tartar behind the gum tissue so that these substances no longer contribute to gum disease. We can then smooth out the roots of the teeth – a process known as root planing – to make it harder to bacteria to gather there in the future.
